Many MLB ball clubs have adopted Rapsodo Hitting and Pitching technology within their organizations for their players and coaches. With over 100 Rapsodo Monitors now in use across a wide range of MLB teams, Rapsodo has become increasingly commonplace for the top contenders in the league and is being utilized within player development, player acquisition, and during the draft process by scouting departments. This includes Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer. Back from an elbow surgery, Fulmer is looking to be a big arm in the Tigers rotation this season. In 2017, Fulmer was 38th in swinging strike rate and 48th in strikeout rate. He has found success pitching to weak contact, and has been working on developing his slider into a more dominant swing and miss pitch. This is where Rapsodo comes into the picture.

Tigers Pitching Coach Chris Bosio has been working with Fulmer to sharpen up his slider. Throwing his slider 21% of the time, Fulmer is looking to master the pitch. In previous seasons, Fulmer has had more success missing barrels with his changeup. “I’m more interested in seeing the spin rate on the slider, just because I rely on that to get guys to hit the ball on the ground. The more spin you have, the more depth you can get on the slider,”said Fulmer.

Fulmer didn’t disappoint in his first outing of the 2018 season. Despite taking the tough 1-0 loss to the Pirates, Fulmer tossed 8 strong innings, giving up just 1 run and 4 hits. At Rapsodo, we’re looking forward to seeing Fulmer continue his pitch development and dominance on the mound.
