What is a LOD Assessment?

The Rapsodo MLM2PRO Premium Membership experience keeps getting better. With the new graphics enhancements every single Rapsodo Course and Rapsodo Range has undergone a significant renovation offering more detailed, lifelike graphics so players are even more immersed in their virtual golf session. To ensure every MLM2PRO Premium Member is having the best experience possible on Rapsodo Simulation, we’ve added a Level of Detail (LOD) assessment to ensure a smooth mobile simulation experience.

What Is the Level of Detail (LOD) Assessment?

The Level of Detail (LOD) assessment tests a phone or tablets ability to support different graphics levels. Previously, we applied the same graphics settings across all devices. However, the gap between older and newer phones and tablets has widened significantly. For example, an iPhone 15 is far more advanced than an iPhone 7, and an iPad Pro 2024 version outperforms an iPad 7th generation by a substantial margin. On the Android side, with thousands of different devices across many manufacturers, the challenge is even greater.

To ensure that each device provides the best possible graphics and gameplay experience, we've developed four LOD tiers: Low, Medium, High and Max.

The LOD Assessment is run the first time each simulation mode (Range, Target Range, and Courses) are launched on each phone or tablet that is used with the MLM2PRO. The assessment will take around one minute, then the result will be stored and used each time a player starts a session. If the app is deleted and reinstalled, the assessment will run again.

How Does It the LOD Assessment Work?

During the LOD Assessment, simulated shots are run in the background for each environment—Range, Target Range, and Courses. During this assessment, a measurement of the FPS (frames per second) the device supports is calculated for each quality level. When the FPS drops below 25 for the graphics tier being tested, the highest supported LOD level is assigned.

Users can override their assessment and adjust their graphics quality tier to choose a higher level of LOD than what is recommended, but this could negatively impact performance with increased lag time responses and a higher level of potential disconnection.

Due to the elements, we generate in each of the modes, a device is more likely to support a higher LOD level on Range or Target Range vs. Courses (where more visual elements are generated across a larger map size).

What Variables Might Impact LOD Assessment Results?

There are a few factors that will impact the recommended:

  • Other applications that are running on the device
  • Downloading content in the background of your device
    • Screen recording the session can negatively impact performance
    • Low battery levels and battery saving modes
    • Limited storage capacity on the device

How can I maximize the LOD my device can support?

    • Close out other apps
    • Ensure device is charged
    • Turn off screen recording
    • Ensure all downloads are complete before starting session

What LOD level will my device support?

Based on our results, we’ve listed some popular devices below. Remember, not all devices will have the exact same performance due to the factors mentioned above.
