What’s up guys! College Burnout here, with my Top 3 Tips for Getting Recruited.
Tip #1 - Develop Big League Tools
First and foremost, the number one way to get recruited in today’s game is to develop as many big league caliber tools as possible (contact, power, speed, defense, arm strength).
While refining your skill set and ability to perform in game IS essential to making it to the next level, there are just certain physical traits that are more accurate predictors of success than others, and scouts know this better than anyone else.
So if you want to be taken seriously by coaches at the next level, you need to be capable of showing at least 2 of the 5 listed tools at that level.
Tip #2 - Prove Yourself Off the Field
The next key to be recruited is to have good grades. Obvious…yes. Boring…for sure.
But at the end of the day college programs only have so much scholarship money to athletes each year, and any opportunity you provide the coaches to ease that stress by securing a partial academic scholarship makes them that much more likely to consider you over another player of equal physical talent.
Not to mention it’s also a general indicator of a kid that’s going to show up consistently, pay attention, and work hard.
Tip #3 - Be Kind
And finally, be a good human in all aspects of life. You would not believe how interconnected the world of baseball is, and everybody has a story to tell.
So when your player profile shows up in a recruiting meeting, does the guy that knows you have a good story…or a bad one?
Because I promise you as somebody that's played on a championship level team, and coached for years, they would rather have the guy that’s slightly less talented and uplifting, than the star athlete that drags everybody else down.
Ready to Get Recruited?
Getting recruited takes more than talent—it takes intentional development, discipline off the field, and the kind of character coaches want in their clubhouse.
Whether you’re chasing D1 dreams or looking to stand out at the next showcase, the path starts with knowing your strengths and showing them off.
