College Golf Programs Use Rapsodo in Seeking Championship Title

July 04, 2022

College golf programs using the Rapsodo Mobile Launch Monitor saw great success this spring. Programs that use MLMs from all 3 NCAA divisions, NJCAA, and NAIA were named conference champions across the nation. The University of Connecticut Men’s Golf team (NCAA D1), Maryville University of Saint Louis (NCAA D2), and Stevens Institute of Technology (NCAA D3) took care of the 3 NCAA divisions. South Mountain Community College won their conference championship in the NJCAA, and Ottawa University of Arizona held on to win their conference championship in the NAIA.

UConn, led by coach David Pezzino, was in a battle with Marquette University all week long. They held on to win by 6 shots to capture their first Big East title since 1994. They will be advancing to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1999. Coach Pezzino was also named Big East Coach of the Year

Maryville University of Saint Louis captured their second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Championship. Led by Coach Scott Thomas, the Saints beat the #8 ranked University of Indianapolis in the match play finals to clinch the title. "The boys worked extremely hard all year to get to this point. The Rapsodo MLM helped us prepare for events all season to make sure our numbers were dialed in,” coach Scott Thomas said.

Stevens Institute of Technology won the MAC Freedom championship this spring by a huge margin! The Ducks, from New Jersey, won by 23 shots to capture their first ever conference championship.

South Mountain Community College dominated their conference play this year winning all 6 of the events they competed in. Led by head coach Aaron Puetz, SMCC cruised to the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference title and are poised to make a run at the NJCAA Division II Championship. They have been utilizing Rapsodo's launch monitor all season long.

"This device has helped us train in numerous ways. The accuracy is incredible and has specifically helped us dial in our yardages with our wedges," Puentz said. "The games on the app keep us competitive, and from a coaching standpoint I am able to look at how efficient each player's practice session was each day. Rapsodo makes my job as a coach much more manageable and is a huge reason why we have been able to win every event this spring and remain the #1 team in the Nation."

Ottawa University of Arizona held on to win by a narrow margin at Briarwood Country Club to defend their Golden State Athletic Conference Championship. Led by coach Tina Barnett, the 11th ranked Spirit were down by 11 shots after the first round to come back and win.
