HITTING

Application

If you have previously added players, whether that’s on the cloud portal or on a different iPad, you will need to connect your current device to an actual internet source (NOT Rapsodo WiFi) and click the sync icon.

You are using a Guest Baseball or Guest Softball profile, you must use a created player profile to get all of the premium data points. If you do not have a subscription, one can be purchased on our website here.

  1. Click on the ‘Team Management’ icon on the left hand side of the app.
  2. Click on the bar graph icon corresponding to the player you want to view.
  3. On the top of the new screen, select the desired date range and this will pull up the past data.
  1. Connect your iPad to an actual internet source. (NOT Rapsodo WiFi)
  2. Open the pitching app and click on the ‘Sync’ icon.
  3. After syncing for a few moments the icon will show ‘Cloud Sync Completed’ indicating all the data has been synced to the cloud.
    1. Please Note: Recorded videos take longer to sync than data only. Even though the icon will say ‘Cloud Sync Completed’ you may still have videos needing uploaded. To check this, you can open the app settings>about> on the bottom left hand side it will say ‘Videos and Diangostic Files pending for syncing’ the number should say 0/0 indicating all videos were synced.
  1. Connect your iPad to an actual internet source (NOT Rapsodo WiFi)
  2. Open the application and click on the sync icon.
    1. IMPORTANT: Do NOT re-add players within the cloud. This will create two accounts for the players and will take time to merge to one.
  3. This will send your players an activation link that the players will need to click on (sent to their emails)
  4. Once done, the players will be active.
Cloud

After activating a player profile (clicking on the link in the activation email) the player will then need to create an account. This can be done by clicking on the clink in the second email they receive (verification email) or they can visit cloud.rapsodo.com directly and click on Player Signup. From there, they will use the same email they were activated with and create a password.

The only export feature Rapsodo offers is the downloadable Pitching and Hitting Reports. There is no export feature for a csv file, unless you have a higher level of our cloud subscription. If you are interested in learning more about our higher level plans, please contact support@rapsodo.com.

You have to make sure you sync the data from the iPad to the cloud. Rapsodo data is stored locally on your iPad until you sync the data to the cloud.

To do this, connect your iPad to an actual internet source (NOT Rapsodo WiFi) and open the Hitting application. On the left hand side there is a sync icon, please click on that and wait until it indicates ‘Cloud Sync Completed”.

  1. Login to your coach account on the cloud.
  2. Navigate to the Team Management Tab in the left hand tool bar
  3. Select the red ‘ADD’ button in the top right corner
  4. Click the link that says ‘Download Excel Template’
  5. Fill out all information in the red columns on the template. The blue ones are not mandatory. DO NOT change the name of the file.
  6. Return to the ‘ADD’ players tab and select ‘Import from File’, find the saved file and select it
  7. Click ‘UPLOAD’
Setup
We recommend 10-12 ft. home plate to home plate.

Check out our set up video.

  1. Place the RCE and Monitor inside of the tank and connect the two with the small provided USB cable.
  2. Using the provided measuring tape, place the tank to the 14′ placement measured from the front of home plate to the front of the tank.
  3. Turn both units on. After a few seconds the RCE will show LED lights; Green, Blue, Red.
  4. Go to your iPad’s WiFi settings and select the Rapsodo_XXXXX_HIT. (The connection will say ‘No Internet Connection’ which is perfectly normal)
  5. Open the hitting application and click on the grayed out WiFi icon on the bottom left hand side of the app; RCE/Monitor will then connect to the application.
  6. Click on the calibration icon on the left side of the application and make sure the angles are both in GREEN (should be as close to 90 and 20 as possible).
  7. Lastly, in the Azimuth view of the calibration screen, make sure the red line is down the middle of the home plate.
    1. Quick Tip: You will not be able to see the home plate. It is best to put an object on or directly behind the middle of the home plate to ensure the red line is down the middle.
  8. You are ready to record hits!
Absolutely! The units will sit back to back and you will need two iPads running both apps.
  • Red – monitor is powered on, but not connected
  • Green – monitor is power on and connected to app
  • Yellow – monitor is charging or in standby mode (press the power button to turn on)
  • Red flashing – monitor is dead; please charge
  • No light – Off
Data and Accuracy

Proper set up is crucial to ensure accurate data! As well as adequate lighting, clean baseballs/softballs, and reading the user guide to make sure you have the most optimal setup possible. Calibration needs to be done prior to each session, too. This means the camera angles are as close to 90 and 20 degrees as possible, and the red line in the azimuth view is directly down the middle of home plate. We also do not recommend having fans blowing near the unit.

Diamond App
If you have previously added players, whether that’s on the cloud portal or on a different iPad, you will need to connect your current iPad to an actual internet source (NOT Rapsodo WiFi) and click on one of the sync icons.

It is always best to fully sync your iPad. If you are recording videos and have Diagnostic mode ON we are storing this on your iPad locally until it syncs to the cloud- just because the data is synced to the cloud does NOT mean the app is fully synced. It is always best to fully sync after every use and you can check this by opening the app>Settings>Upload Progress, and all files should say DONE.

Yes, whichever WiFi access point you connect with the Diamond App will recognize this and the PLAY screen will reflect that.

  • If you connect to a pitching unit, the PLAY screen will only show pitching metrics. If you connect to a hitting unit, the PLAY screen will show only hitting metrics.

For quick recording of data with multiple players you should use the Multiplayer setting. To do this, follow these steps:

  • PLAY Screen>Multiplayer>select all the players you wish to record data with>Select the session classification>Record data, you will now be able to tap on the left and right arrows to quickly navigate between players.

To view and edit player profile information, you must be connected to the internet. Connect to WiFi that has internet access and you will be able to edit player information.

Game Mode
Game Mode is an add-on to your current subscription that runs for an additional $2,000 per year.
Yes, you need to have a cloud subscription to run Game Mode.
You will have to have a Rapsodo Hitting 2.0 unit and an iPad Pro 2nd generation to run the app.
Two licenses come with one Game Mode Subscription. This means one Game Mode subscription can be activated on two HITTING 2.0 units at a time.
Yes! This is the ideal setup for Rapsodo Game Mode. You will need an Apple TV that has Bluetooth airplay capabilities OR an HDMI cable (with iPad connector) to view the app on your TV.
Airplay through a smart TV and Apple TV that requires the same WiFi network connection will not work. You will need a TV or Apple TV that is able to airplay via Bluetooth. (Recent models of the Apple TV all have this capability)
  1. Turn on your RCE
  2. Open the Diamond App >Settings>Subscription
  3. Tap ‘Link Device’
  4. The last RCE your Diamond App was connected to will appear, tap that RCE
  5. Your RCE is now connected!
You do not need internet connection to run the Game Mode. However, you will have to make sure your Diamond App is fully synced to ensure all player profiles are available.
Yes! All data is saved the same whether it is recorded in the Game Mode app or the Diamond App
Yes. Game Mode is it’s own separate app, however the two apps are integrated and you will be running both at the same time.

This means your RCE is not paired with a Game Mode License. Here is how to link the two:

  1. Turn on your RCE
  2. Open the Diamond App >Settings>Subscription
  3. Tap ‘Link Device’
  4. The last RCE your Diamond App was connected to will appear, tap that RCE
  5. Your RCE is now connected!
Currently, we have Batting Practice and Home Run Derby. Stay tuned for more games to come throughout the year!

CLOUD

The cloud can be accessed on this link. Our recommend search engine is google chrome on a computer.

Yes. All player and coach accounts need to be associated with a legitimate and unique email address. Accounts cannot be under the same email address.

Advise the player to check their spam/junk inbox. The email will come from support@rapsodo.com. It’s very important to only send one invitation to each player. Sending multiple invitations to players will cause issues within our system.

A player or coach account can be created on this link.

If another master coach wishes to invite the player to their roster, the player will just need to provide the email address associated with their active Rapsodo account.

  1. Coaches add the player like a normal new player
  2. Once this additional invite has been sent, the player will receive a notification in their cloud account and will have the ability to accept or decline the invitation
    1. The notification will appear in the bell icon at the top of the cloud web page

After they are synced from the app, all hitting or pitching sessions are visible on the cloud. They can be viewed under the personal stats tab of the cloud. Please be sure to check the date range in the top right corner of the site. If you are looking for a session from over 1 month ago, you will need to expand the drop time frame using the drop down calendar.

INSIGHT

General
INSIGHT is a high-speed camera which captures slow-motion video that pairs with Rapsodo data. The video and data will be integrated which seamlessly connects player mechanics with their data.
Yes, right now the INSIGHT camera will only work with either Pitching 2.0 or Hitting 2.0. It cannot be used independently. Our team is currently developing a way to use INSIGHT without needing to use another device, so stay tuned!

INSIGHT can be charged two different ways:

  • USBC cable
  • Ethernet cable – this also powers on the flash.

Both of these options can charge the INSIGHT camera during use or while it’s off.

Yes – INSIGHT can flash when the ethernet cable is plugged in. This is recommended for indoor use. The ethernet cable will also charge the camera.
Application

You will need to use the latest version of the Pitching 2.0 app or Rapsodo Hitting app.

  1. Power on INSIGHT Camera (it takes a little bit longer to power on. You want to wait until you hear the fan running to move on)
  2. Power on RCE & Monitor
  3. Open Rapsodo Pitching 2.0 app or Rapsodo Hitting
    1. Tap Settings and make sure Insight mode it turned ON
      1. Select INSIGHT Pair
  4. Create Network (this should be a one time process)
    1. On the right, you should see the available wifi signals: INSIGHT and RCE PITCHING (or HITTING)
      1. Please note both the INSIGHT camera and RCE need to be powered on for this step
    2. Select ‘Create Network’ on the left side of the screen
      1. You will need to name the network – this needs to be exactly 6 characters
    3. Both wifi signals need to be dragged into the newly created network
      1. The INSIGHT wifi needs to be dragged over first
      2. You will receive a notification if they were successfully added
  5. Open iPad settings and connect to INSIGHT wifi
  6. Go back to the Rapsodo Pitching 2.0 app or Rapsodo Hitting
    1. First, select the top wifi icon in the tool bar – this will connect the INSIGHT (INSIGHT always needs to be connected first)
      1. Once connected, you should see green next to the wifi icon
    2. Second, select the bottom wifi icon in the tool bar – this will connect the RCE (ground unit)
  7. All buttons on the left tool bar should be green which signals you are ready to go

**Please note: Step 4 to create the network should only need to happen during initial set up. Once it’s created, your normal set up does not need to include step 4.

**Please note: The INSIGHT unit should always be turned on FIRST then the pitching or hitting unit can be turned on.

Check out our connection video.

The wifi network can be created within the app under Settings > INSIGHT pair. On the right, you should see the available wifi signals: INSIGHT and RCE PITCHING (or HITTING). Select ‘Create Network’ on the left side of the screen. You will be prompted to name the network (this needs to be exactly 6 characters). Both wifi signals need to be dragged into the newly created network. You will receive a notification if they were successfully connected.

*Please note that the INSIGHT camera and RCE need to be powered on for this step.

Yes – In the app, INSIGHT always needs to connect before the ground unit. This can be done by selecting the top wifi icon in the tool bar first.

Videos sync to the cloud just like normal. They are accessible on the cloud next to each pitch or hit once synced. They can also be viewed in the app under the history tab or through team management for the player.

Setup
INSIGHT can be placed anywhere! As long as the unit is focused on the correct target (ball, player’s upper body, etc), it will trigger on the thrown pitch or hit ball and give associated data.

You will create a wifi network within the app that includes both signals. Once this is created, you will connect to only the INSIGHT signal under iPad settings.

The camera lens can be focused by adjusting the lens on the physical camera. Once it’s focused the lens can be tightened using the small screw/bolt so it does not shift.

The main difference between the lenses is how wide you want the shot. 6mm is a wider lens, while 16mm is smaller. 16mm is usually used for pitching to focus on the release to see precise hand placement. 6mm can be used to view the whole upper body during pitching or hitting sessions. The lenses can be swapped depending on use and focus of the session.

You will only need a few feet of room behind the pitcher, essentially enough for the tripod to extend and be stable. With hitting, you want to make sure the camera isn’t close enough to get hit with the bat or ball.
No, the pitching unit will be set up in the exact same spot (15 feet 6 inches from front of home plate to back of unit) to be used with Insight. The pitching unit tells the Insight to start recording, so the Pitching unit setup is crucial.
Yes, the tripod will extend to around 9 feet tall to capture tall baseball pitchers, and get around 1 foot tall to capture the low release of a softball pitcher. There is not any additional tripod purchase necessary with Insight.
Insight Stream

We recommend using the flash indoors.

Depending on the lighting, and if flash is necessary. The exposure settings can be turned all the way up or set to around 900.

We do not recommend using the flash outdoors; even if it is dark or cloudy.

Depending on the outdoor lighting, the exposure can be turned all the way down and gain all the way up.

There are a few ways. First, you can change the trigger setting on the Insight config screen. The longer the trigger, the more video on both sides of the pitch or hit you will be able to see. The other way to change the length of the video is by changing the pre and post trigger slow mo. The smaller the percentages on each side, the less slow mo you will see. If both are set to 0, you will get the pitch or hit in real time. If both are 100%, the entire video will be slow mo. Normal percentages for pitch design are around 20% on each side.

FPS is the frequency rate at which consecutive images called frames appear on display. There are two different options to choose from 650fps and 850fps. 650fps is a larger video that allows for more of a full body view. While 850fps is a smaller and slower video that is more zoomed in. This view can focus more on grips and release during pitching sessions.

Yes! Net Mode (indoors and outdoors) is currently compatible with these devices for app version 1.6.0: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE 2nd Gen, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPad Pro (9.7″), iPad Pro (12.9″) iPad Pro (11″) 2nd Gen, iPad Pro (12.9″) 3rd Gen, iPad Pro (12.9″) 4th Gen, iPad Air 4th Gen

If you have one of these devices, you will have the option to choose between Indoor/Outdoor modes right after you hit Play and then Practice. If not, it will automatically assume you are on Outdoor mode because the device is not supported.

If your device is not currently supported for MLM Net, please be patient as we continue working to optimize our algorithms to make MLM Net available for additional devices.

On Outdoor Mode, MLM provides club type, distance (carry for irons and wedges, can select carry or total for woods), club speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch angle, launch direction.

On Net Mode, shot trace, auto club recognition, GPS shot map, competitions and games are disabled.

No. In order for you to get accurate data, you will need to use a real golf ball. The MLM will not trigger properly if using a wiffle or foam practice ball.

Yes, the MLM will only be able to provide data in well-lit environments.

High winds can affect the distances as we do not account for adverse conditions. Overheating can affect the MLM if your iPhone/iPad is placed in direct sunlight. If your iOS device starts to overheat, you will receive an alert informing you. Your MLM will still track data and record each shot for review in Sessions but instant video feedback during the session is disabled to help cooldown your device.

*Please note that if you have any credit cards or a magnetic case on your iPhone, it may cause interference with your iOS gyroscope. Please remove the case from your phone before starting your session.

MLM analyzes the initial flight of the ball to calculate trajectory and distance by using radar/camera technology. Golf Laboratories has conducted product comparison testing. See how the MLM compares to Trackman and to Flightscope Mevo.
Place the MLM 6-8ft behind you. When addressing the ball, look back at your iOS device to ensure you see your body in the “Player Area” and the ball in the “Ball Area”. The alignment line in between the two boxes and should be aimed parallel to your target line.
The MLM is tracking the actual ball velocity, launch, and initial trajectory. This data will vary with the type and quality of the ball. Range balls are often harder than standard balls which would result in high velo and higher launch angles. But the resulting distance and trajectory will be accurate for a range ball.

If you are hitting shots and the LED on the MLM turns from green to blue and back to green but no data shows:

  • Ensure the MLM is aligned 6-8 feet behind the ball and aimed down the target line
  • Check to make sure your iOS device is sitting on the MLM slot with the screen facing you
  • Ensure you do not have a magnetic case on your iOS device
The MLM does not take wind, weather, slope, or elevation into consideration. It assumes you are using a premium ball at 70 degrees with no humidity and assumes you are at sea level.
  1. Open the MLM app and click the ‘Home’ tab
  2. Tap on the session you wish to go back to
  3. Search for the shot you wish to share. The list is sorted by the sequence you practiced. You can easily sort it by club type, distance, etc., just tap on the column description or club.
  4. Once you found the shot you wish to share, slide from right to left on the favored shot and tap on the camera icon. It will open and play the video recording of that shot.
  5. Once the video is played back a share icon will appear on the bottom right (U with an arrow up) the export process will take a few seconds.
  6. This will open a menu which allows you to save the video on your phone in Photos or you can share it with your friends via message or other social media platforms.

At this time the MLM is only compatible with iOS Devices that meet our minimum requirements.

We are working on Android availability and prioritizing it. Our main focus is on accuracy and want it to meet our standards as we have on all iOS devices. Android compatibility will be an ongoing development as we will release compatibility with select devices first and roll out more as we develop.

The Public setting will qualify you for having your video appear on the Explore page of the application. The Private setting will not qualify you to show up on the Explore page.

You are able to drop a pin within the driving range that you are hitting at. Then you are able to look back on the shots and see exactly where they were on the range from a birds eye view map.

No, the only export feature is with the video with overlay which can be saved to your iPhone/iPad and shared to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or other social media platforms.

Please remember that the auto club recognition feature only works outdoor for now, it does not work indoors. It might work better on irons, but on drivers and woods the numbers are more to the corners of the clubs, so please try not to show the club to the camera too close, it needs to focus on the numbers on the club.

Please make sure;
  • You have good lighting on the camera, not too bright and not too dark.
  • You fit the club head in the frame.
  • You keep the club head vertical.

Auto club recognition is disabled on net mode due to the lighting. As people are hitting at home or at their garage, the lighting is not sufficient for the phone’s camera to read the tiny details on the clubs and recognize them.

Distances are reported in “Carry”, however you have the option to select “Total” distance for drivers and woods. Here is how to change the driver and wood distance:

Open MLM app > Profile > App Settings > Driver wood settings (Carry/Total)

***This is the same on Outdoor and Indoor modes.

Setup

To set up the MLM;
You should make sure that you have fully charged the unit before using it. The light should be amber when charging, it should turn off completely when fully charged.

  • Press the power button on the side, it will go from red to blue when it is connected.
  • The Bluetooth connection should be enabled on the MLM, and you should allow Bluetooth connection through your iPhone settings.
  • Go to Profile, you will see an instription that says “Not Connected”, if you click on that, MLM will show up under available devices.
  • Then select “Play”, and “Practice”. The LED should turn green here.
  • To confirm location use only 1 finger to move the location around and 2 fingers to navigate the direction.
You do not need to open your phone camera, once you hit play and then practice, you will see that the camera will open within the app. Allowing camera and microphone access is necessary, you can also check that in your iPhone settings. Type “MLM” in the search bar in your iPhone settings to check that.
  • Red target line should be in line with the ball and the end of the target. MLM must see you and the ball in the frame to be able to see the ball flight. Please use the ball area and the golfer area as a guide.

No. Your phone/iPad is default to auto calibration upon opening the MLM app. Simply open the app, connect your device via Bluetooth, and start hitting!
